Yesterday Olivia and I, along with a couple of friends, attended an art workshop at a museum. The project was to carve an initial letter of poem and make either an intaglio or relief print of it, and then copy the poem onto the page. Olivia made an intaglio print of her letter, and she picked a poem about a willow tree fairy. Here's how her project turned out:

An intaglio print is when the image is carved out to appear white on the page while the background is colored. A relief print is when the background is carved out to appear white on the page while the image is colored (like a rubber stamp). Olivia's fancy letter B is an intaglio print.
