Today we went on another field trip to a museum The topic was medieval trade, and the kids dressed in costumes and reenacted a medieval French marketplace.
Frederick pointed out where the Vikings lived and where they traveled. (Note to Minnesotans: I don't mean the football team.)
Frederick traded carved soapstone for a chunk of amethyst at the marketplace. The kids learned about all sorts of commodities, such as wool (I was the wool dealer!), fur, flax, lavendar, silk, ivory...including the most valuable item, which Olivia bargained for. Know what was more valuable than gold?
Salt was the most valuable item.
After the business of trading goods, the kids headed to the workshop and made a medieval pin using a repousse technique (pressing a design into a thin piece of metal).
The parents joined the art project, too. Frederick is on the left, in the blue shirt.
